Pension emergency tax refund - 30 or 90 days?

Hi all, rather than create a similar thread I thought i would post here.
I have the same issue as the OP, having put in a claim after cashing in a lump sum from my pension.
I filled in the requisite forms (paper print outs and snail mail as the website keeps chasing its tail when I tried).
After over 30 days of nothing I assumed it was "lost" so re- submitted, then again every 2 weeks for the next 2 times to ensure something got through. I still have not heard anything and we are now over 2 months on.
Does anyone else that used the posting forms method have a timescale in which they received the refund ?

I have sent numerous correspondence to the pension company , quite interesting there response in me knowing that they were sitting on my tax and they trying to give me some strange answers on not providing me with a P60 of which they are legally bound to do so , I have also reported them to the pension ombudsman.0

Deducting tax in itself isn't enough for a P60 to be necessary, there are other criteria which need to be met before a pension payer or employer is obliged to provide one.Nortonred100 said:I have sent numerous correspondence to the pension company , quite interesting there response in me knowing that they were sitting on my tax and they trying to give me some strange answers on not providing me with a P60 of which they are legally bound to do so , I have also reported them to the pension ombudsman.0 -
Yes I know , but it is good practice and also very poor customer service to lead you into believing they are providing one and submitting RTI to HMRC and having no intention of doing so .0

The paper method is more like 90-180 days. It has never been anywhere near 30 days.Bartflaster said:Hi all, rather than create a similar thread I thought i would post here.

Have you made a formal complaint to them? The PO won't be interested unless you've done so and given them a chance to resolve it.Nortonred100 said:Yes I know , but it is good practice and also very poor customer service to lead you into believing they are providing one and submitting RTI to HMRC and having no intention of doing so .Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Oh thats a PITA. The Gov.website doesn't like me, after I jump through 60 hoops and do a double backflip, it tells me I dont existdunstonh said:The paper method is more like 90-180 days. It has never been anywhere near 30 days.

Yes I have made 2 formal complaints , that is when I finally got some sort of response from them , they still have not resolved the issue , so will now go through the PO.0

For me, pension payment minus emergency tax 9th July. Put in electronic form same day. Refund of tax received 7th October.
The forecast date slipped a few times during the wait.0 -
Apart from the fact that it's the HMRC, WHY OH WHY when I am logged into my tax account am I Not shown I have submitted a form P55. Why do I get "IF you have overpaid tax we will look at it some time between June and October"
I then have to find the tracking section to submit which form was sent and on what date to be able to get an estimate of when it will be reviewed
If MY record was complete it would stop un necessary requested to HMRC as to "What is going on"
