Council Tax Band- 2 bedroom vs 3 bedroom house

Hi All,

So I have moved in to a new build house (2 bedrooms, mid terrace) late August. Only few weeks ago I've got a letter from VOA that my band is D.

However, chatting to my neighbours last night they told me they also got band D although their house is semi-detached and with 3 bedrooms (my house is between two semi detached houses). I am completely new to all of this, however, surely my band shouldn't be the same as theirs? 

Any insights/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It's quite possible, your house could be at the bottom of the band, theirs could be at the top. There are only 8 bands but far more property types, so different property types will be in the same band. Also the VOA go on size rather than number of beds.

Thank you for the response- I am wondering if it's worth challenging?

Check other neighbours:

Based on two examples hard to tell, could be that your neighbour had 2 bed converted to 3.. who knows.

Costs nothing to challenge....or didn't when I  did it.....do it yourself don't use a firm it's easy....or was when I did it.
