Hello all,
Thank you for your kind words and encouragement, feels great to not have the paypal over me anymore. Do you think i should close the credit side of paypal? I still use paypal for ebay and payments for protection ect.
My phone contract ends in Jan i believe so not long left. I honestly can't believe it has gone up so much since I had it, no other phone has ever gone up by that much before. This phone still works great and i have no desire for a new one.
My default was added in feb 2021. It sits in the 'closed' accounts part of clearscore but with 'in default' and at £0 balance. it was for broadband.
It is worth contacting them to see what they can do or will that open a can of worms? Maybe its just worth waiting it out.. it will be 4 years old in feb 2025
The loan is paid by direct debit monthly but i can do extra payments on their website whenever i like.
I would like to get a home as soon as possible, so an open ended response really. now I've got rid of one of the debts i can start to put more away. My outgoings are minimal, i will post an SOA this weekend perhaps so I can really see what my outgoings are and where I can improve. My partner and I are already cutting out things like beers, only buying clothes from eBay and vinted (I actually have a pile I need to get onto ebay which will go into the savings or onto the loan). We shop at Aldi and stay in at the weekends ect. we're homebody's luckily.
I never considered a 0% Purchase card due to my default and terrible credit past. maybe this time I will pay my insurance in one go....serves me right for rear-ending someone i guess
I forgot to mention... I have £78 tax refund due from Mr HMRC..small wins1 -
Been a couple of weeks since I posted as I celebrated my birthday and had a weekend away (not very money saving of me but this was purchased and paid in full by my partner earlier in the year)
However, I have got my savings back up to £2200 since paying my PayPal off.
Slight annoyance on trying to get my tax overpayment from Mr HMRC...I need to provide my driving licence but didn't realise it expired earlier in the year so had to pay £14 to renew it so have to wait for that to come before I can request the £78.
Found £80 in a savings account I forgot I had. BONUS!
My credit score has gone up, which I am pleased about! I use the apps to keep an eye on my history more than anything. Although can't for the life of me get the app to realise I AM on the electoral roll no matter how many times I do it.
Planting the seeds to try and get a promotion at work at end of this year or beginning of next, wish me luck!
I volunteered with my partner to do Christmas at my family's house this year. Already got a plan on what's needed for the dinner. I'm on the fence about asking my brother to put some money towards the food as he doesn't usually contribute anything to the household aside from a small amount of rent to my family member.
This weekend consists of:
-Staying in and playing video games unless we go for a walk.
-Clean the cars (big chore ugh)
-Putting my big ol' pile of clothes on eBay (or Vinted, I'm suspicious of Vinted for some reason)
-Study my next part of my Uni module (did I mention I got 100% on my paper submitted last week )
-Cooking carbonara, marry-me chicken and jambalaya for Fri/Sat/Sun1 -
Quick check in.
Things are going well. Touch wood....
Paypal - Gone. I am unsure weather to close this credit account or not as I understand that it may been seen as a good thing to have some form of (manageable) credit available. Credit cards are always advertised to me as almost 40% and the paypal is 25.9%. Having the paypal is less accessible, in the sense of not being able to use when in an actual shop and being able to cash withdraw, so I'm undecided on closing it. Maybe lessen the limit to £1000?
Abound loan - Down to £6,710.80. I was looking at my payments and i got a massive sense of regret and was thinking about just selling the car to pay it off (as that's why I got it) but I think I was just having a panic moment...I need a car.
I have paid £50 over payment since last month.
The default on my credit file has fallen off??? now not showing so I've gotten lucky somehow? Just waiting to see if this appears somewhere but it is paid so this shouldn't be the case.
The BF was very kind and put my pile 'o clothes on Vinted and has been sending them out for me as they get sold which saves me trying to get this done around work and study, I am ever so grateful to him. So far around £50 and a shrinking clothes pile.
I've started going through my belongings that have been stored since moving out of my own place to firstly keep me occupied and in the house so there's no temptation to spend and secondly, it'll be less of a mammoth task if we manage to move out next year.
I got my new driving license and tax refund from Mr HMRC - straight into the savings.
The not so good...
I forgot to do my time sheet last week at work so I didn't get paid (i will get double this week) so I had to move some monies from my savings which upset me as I had gotten my savings up to £2700. It should straighten back out after Friday. I do now have a calendar reminder to fill my time sheet in lol
Christmas is around the corner...which means ££££££.
I am managing this simply by only giving my brother and partner a 'big' present. Everyone else is aware of us saving so they're getting a box of chocs and some love from myself and BF.
I volunteered the BF to cook xmas dinner at my families house (I will be helping hehe, he's just better at roasts than I am), we will be splitting the cost of food between the 4 of us which I was grateful for them to agree to.
This week is my last week at work before I go on Christmas break, looking forward to some relaxation and the chance to spend some time with my grandad as he's shared that he may have dementia. He has just turned 80 and is a father figure to me so I need to make more of an effort while I have him.
I will check in again soon, hopefully with more good news.

Xmas is out the way, it was great. Had 3 weeks off paid over the holidays where I did sod all, bloody lovely. Spent 2 weeks with my wonderful boyfriend who spoilt me, what did I do to deserve him
Phone contract…now £19 a month for the same amount of data, EE sent a text if I didn’t go sim only or upgrade they’d start charging me £85 a month, somehow £15 MORE than what my phone was in contract, make that make sense
Car insurance…I was worried it would be a grand or more cause of the hikes recently..nope!! £800 paid in full. Bing bang bosh, happy days. Thats half of what i paid for the last year. Also stopped vaping, wasn’t costing me much still, that’s £10 a month extra in the bank and some happy lungs3.5% pay rise, not much but It’s better than a poke in the eye. Goal this year is a promotion, got my toes crossed. My uni paper submitted early today, normally I leave it right until the cusp to get as much time as possible but I was ahead of the game.I’ll check in again soon, we’re at £10k deposit for the future house. All spare money is going as overpayments for our cars and savings. I’m feeling optimisticI’ll drop another post soon2
