What age should children be given a mobile phone?

Very odd that anyone would justify allowing their child to have a phone ‘because they need it for school’.
Society buys into the lie that schools are bringing up our children….no!I’m the parent. They don’t have phones. If they ‘need’ google to complete work in class, perhaps the teachers aren’t teaching??On the other hand, the growing number of families homeschooling are still oddly judged!
As a parent of young children who won’t be having phones, and as someone who is doing teacher training, I find it astounding that parents would try to blame schools for their own poor choices- like the school made you sign the phone contract!
It’s a shame Kier won’t crack on with banning them to be honest. Schools that have banned phones have better results.
Early phone access is linked to poor mental health…no two ways about it!0 -

The benefit of this was the cost.... only slightly more than buying your own iPad direct from Apple at full RRP, which you would fully own, and have complete control over.
Suffice to say, uptake on this "amazing opportunity" was not exactly overwhelming!• The rich buy assets.
• The poor only have expenses.
• The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Interestingly piece in a local paper about how many iPads, which were handed out to pupils, have not been returned to the schools. Naughty pupils will not get to go to their "Prom" or get a leavers hoodie apparently.

If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -

He got his at 11, but many were carrying them since they were about 8!
His was (and still is) restricted by parental controls on times, durations, app limits, and age limits. But many aren't as the parents seem to be unaware that such things exist (or just don't care).
His schools policy on phones is good though: Switched off completely from entering the gates to leaving, including breaks and lunchtimes. 👍• The rich buy assets.
