Hi
Could someone tell me how long a charge can be registered against a property in Scotland , Does it expire totally after 12 years whether the debt has been paid off or not ? Or is it still outstanding ?
Thanks

A charge placed against your property , usually from a bank As a security against a debt , Have you never heard of it ?0

Yes, but there are other types, and we wouldn’t typically refer to a normal mortgage as a “charge”.
Mortgage terms are typically much longer than 12 years long, there wouldn’t be much point in registering the security if it flew off halfway through a 25 year mortgage.1
