Hey everyone, i am on the lookout to buy a new washing machine but there is so much that i don’t know which. I am looking for an affordable and sturdy one. No noise and short cycle ( but not the 10 min cycle it makes no sense for me). Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

We replaced ours recently with one that isn't affordable, it is quieter than our old one for most of the run time but the last 5 minutes its much louder but its a 1,600 spin speed -v- our old one that was 1,200. The clothes come out so much drier it's a worth while sacrifice to make for us.1 -
Miele.
But they do make a noise. Not possible for any machine not to do so.
Modern machines save energy by soaking the washing with occasional agitation. Short cycles may not wash as well, nor save much energy or water (if any).1 -
@DullGreyGuyWhich one did you get?See i didn’t know that it will translate to wetter clothes and i am not willing to compromise that. I wouldn’t want to spend more than £400-500 but i want to get a good one that would be worth the money and not having to change it in two years0

Historically they were bullet proof and came with 10 year warranties. Some say their quality has gone down in the last decade and they now have a 5 year warranty but only on the middle tier and above machines. It's amusing because even old machines have an IR communication port that their engineers can connect up to and get a load of info about the device. When a relative had their 16 year old machine repaired for a damaged water seal they could see it had been run for over 15,000 hours which they were surprised about but the engineer said it was long way off from the most used machine they'd repaired.
The spin noise will only be at the end... there are other factors that will impact the rest of the programme run time noise. As mentioned for a 90 minute programme its quieter than our old Bosch for 85 minutes but noisier for the last 5
Do you have a tumble dryer? If so matching capacity can be sensible else you have to split the laundry and run the drier twice for each time of running the machine or you overload the machine which isn't a good idea.
Personally thing there is a fair amount of snake oil in the sales of washing machines, your choice of detergent probably make more difference on how effective they are at stain removal. Miele certainly make a lot of big claims and some of their features do add convenience but actually cleaner clothes or less wrinkles? maybe a small bit but its not night and day. That said, their tumble drier does have a mode for bed linen and it does seem to dry it quicker than on other modes (they say the pattern of drum turns are different and so the bedding gets less tangled.)1 -
Have just bought this 1 from Bosch.

Not had it delivered yet but good reviews & not too expensive.1 -
I have found absolutely no reason to buy expensive white goods, especially for washing machines.
Our last 2 Beko washing machines had all the features required and have lasted 15 years for the first and the second is now 11 years old and running fine. They both have had some heavy use through washing pet bedding several times a week.
The first one I could have repaired as it was the drum bearings, but like many models now they are sealed to the drum so would have needed to replace that as well.
We could have bought 3 for the equivalent outlay, and I haven't seen anyone's last longer to make up the difference.
I would definitely get a 1600 spin, it will be louder, but only for a few minutes and save hours on having laundry hanging around.
A lot of people don't realise that basic maintenance helps maintain a washing machine. Regular cleaning out of the trap can add years to its llfe, but most people don't do it.1 -
@400ixl Yes, that is true maintenance is important. And would the 1600 make the clothes all wrinkled up more than normal??
I am looking for a machine to make life with babies easier and for now i am line drying that’s why i appreciate the comments on the 1600 because i didn’t know it0
