Metro Bank - Mortgage Application - Beware Excessive Processing Times/Poor Service

Having been faced with a section 21 in September we made a mortgage application to Metro Bank through an advisor (I’m 61).   It took over four weeks for Metro to decide they didn’t like one of the applicants zero-hour contract even though over a two-year period 2023 and 2024 the P60s show consistent earnings for a zero-hour.

Furthermore, and more crucially Metro have ruined my credit score as they conducted two hard searches and 14 soft searches on me.   There has been no other credit check prior to Metro and my credit score has dropped by 46 points from 950 to 904.  I am now seeking a mortgage with an alternative lender but concerned that my latest credit score will adversely affect my ability to secure a mortgage offer.

Is there anything that can be done to improve my credit score back to where is was as we desperately need to buy and this is dependent on getting a mortgage offer which is influences by my credit score. Are there any lender that are more lenient when it comes to credit score?

Many thanks

Your credit score is NEVER seen by any lender. It is simply a made up figure by the CRA's.

What counts is your credit history & affordability.

Just be aware that you may face exactly the same issue with further lenders over your/partners income.

Soft footprints wont affect your score.
But in any event, mortgage lenders do not use your credit score so do not worry too much about it.
