OPUS chasing statute barred dept (and leaving voicemails on communal office phone)

Hi all,

I’m reaching out for some advice regarding a situation I’m facing with a debt collector (Opus). They’ve been chasing me over an old debt that they’ve already acknowledged as statute-barred, meaning legally they shouldn’t be able to pursue it.

However, despite this, they’ve been leaving voicemail messages on the communal office phone, which then get emailed as a voice file to several people in the office. I find this incredibly inappropriate and concerning, as my colleagues are now aware of a personal matter that should be private.

I’m wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or knows the legalities around this? Surely they’re not allowed to do this, especially considering the debt is statute-barred. What’s the best course of action to get them to stop contacting me in this way?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Scott
