Family Allowance

My partner and I have recently split up. We have 2 children. The elder one lives full time with me. The younger one lives 50/50 between us. My ex pays nothing towards the elder son but receives all the family allowance. She is on benefits and is working some hours but I don't know any more about it. I applied for the elder sons family allowance to be transferred to me but it was rejected. They said they couldn't process my claim because of the benefits my ex is claiming. Can anybody explain what this may all be about please?

When 2 people claim for the same child they investigate to see who it should be paid to. Any chance your ex has claimed the child still lives with them?0

Family Allowance no longer exists. I assume you mean Child Benefit. Have you checked if Child Maintenance is due to either party? How old are the children and what education are they in?

Just answered my own question - it's a benefit that used to be given to people but hasn't for the last 45 years so not sure what you mean OP?0

Do you mean child benefit ?
or that she claims for both children on tax credits ?
or that she claims for both children on universal credit?0 -
The child benefit should go to you if the child lives with you.0
