It appears for many many years now most of major shop points value is 1 pence per point , but surely should not this go up with Inflation ???

Many other cards are stuck in the same rut have not gone up with inflation rate .

Could Martin Lewis investigate this please ??

Many Thanks

  • You are getting something for nothing. You could choose not to use a loyalty card if you feel it isn’t valuable for you to do so.

Why should it go up with inflation?
It’s a bonus for shopping with who you choose to shop with.
If you shop in Aldi or Lidl you won’t get any pence per point.

I shop at Asda & Ocado and I love the Asda app and benefits, I have £70 so far in my cash pot for Christmas and I have withdrawn already twice this year.

Lidl works on a "pounds make prizes" basis.   It depends on how you shop, but IME the Lidl scheme has a faster payback than other supermarkets, with the downside that the rewards are specified by Lidl, and not a free choice like other schemes.

Ah ok. I rarely shop at Lidl to be honest so wasn’t fully familiar. I did do a shop over £100 and I got a free bakery item on the app 🤣 x

They've just changed the scheme, so there's no longer the "bakery item" tier.

There are 4 parts of the Lidl loyalty App:-

    - Shelf-edge Lidl App offers (shown in red in shops with electronic price labels).
    - Weekly offers in the App.  (4 offers that are advertised, and others that they add related to previous purchases).
    - Spin-the-wheel offers that you get after each purchase (these are normally a chance to win a voucher, but sometimes a guaranteed win).
    - 4-step vouchers based on accumulated spend during a calendar month.

I kind of object to the gamification of shopping, but it's also a pretty generous scheme.

Marketing companies are getting smarter and points are being devalued.
1 point = 1p doesnt make sense as people see it 1% discount - so easy to compare with Aldi price.

Imagine spending £80 to get 80p of points, not worth it.
Imagine spending £80 and getting 7200 points - that already sounds impressive. Throw some random promotions to encourage you to spend more like Xmas Special 3x points and you'll get whooping 21600 points - even better.. then once a year you'll at their value and have a feeling of free £20.

That's the way it all goes towards.
