Who's responsible

A dishwasher was delivered 3/10/24
Upon opening I find it's damaged. I messaged and phoned several times regarding this problem, refund accepted yesterday, my biggest concern is it's been over 10 days for them to collect faulty dishwasher last week they asked me for dates I'd be available
Expecting a date for collection
They say that there talking to the manufacturers
It's now becoming a joke 😃
Am I responsible for the package I don't want or own
Any suggestions

You're responsible for taking reasonable care of it while it's still in your possession, i.e. you can't damage it further or just leave it out on the street.0

You are. If you don't look after it, you will probably find your refund won't happen or will be reversed.0

Have you received the refund? If so I would be giving them a firm deadline for collection. We had a built in double oven replaced and it took weeks to get them to collect the old one, despite repeated promises. Fortunately we did have somewhere to store it safely outside the house.0

If they've agreed a refund it should be provided within 14 days of the date of agreement (although enforcing that is a lengthily process) but in terms of being refunded and still having possession of the machine then there would be a duty to take reasonable care, if months went by and they hadn't collected despite requests to do so you can sell for a fair market price and then account the sale value (minus actual selling costs) to them should they ever come looking.
Sadly being in this position, of an involuntary bailee, is a thankless one.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

I shouldn't imagine a broken dishwasher would be worth much. Maybe a dishwasher repair person might want it for parts.
Involuntary bailee laws can kinda suck.0
