31/12/2007 What small dfw thing have you done or will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging the washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

I will start off.
Today I will.....
  1. Create an online account to monitor DD's mobile phone usage.
  2. Update XL with my 2008 budgets.
  3. Put the first coins in my terramundi for the sealed pot challenge.
  4. Make lunch and tea from storecupboard.
  5. Stay at home and have a no spend day.
  6. Take xmas cards down ready to recycle at asda on Wednesday.
Have a good day everyone. Enjoy your New Year celebrations.
Reduce,re-use, recycle.

Blimey, nothing like starting the post early into the 31st! But, its a good one so I'll let you off. Im hoping to spend nothing today as Im working through the night, so no drinking etc for me!

Im doing a little challenge with myself actually. There's just over 2 weeks left till payday, and this month has already gone completely off the rails due to Christmas and unexpected bills etc.

I counted the money in my pocket today and it came to £25.20

I've already done a bigish shop this week, so Im going to see exactly how long I can stretch that £25.20 to if I really try. Should be fun in a weird way!
Working to make our future as secure and comfortable as possible.
  • Good one!

I'm at a stage in my life (starting being self employed, moving flats etc) where doing an SOA would be a bit crazy as all my outgoings/income are going to change and only settle over the next week or so. But apart from checking my cash flow, I obviously need to watch the pennies as well.

    So, today I:

-spent only £2 .... on food at Morrisons

-renegotiated a work thing so hopefully I will make an extra £80 tomorrow

    Tomorrow, I will:

-call up all my utility suppliers to make sure they know I am moving out and that all the bills are Ok.

-put money in my bank account :-)

    -work!

-read through the ebay page so I can get the hang of how it works...I have some lovely vintage clothing that I am selling, so want to list this over the next week or so.

I have bought lunch to work from home.
I have change and a £10 note to pay in to my account to help pay off my CC Xmas debt!
We're staying in tonight with OH's dad and not paying a fortune to go out!
  • I'm going to add some photos to my ebay listings to try and drum up a bit more interest and also prepare some letters to go to Sainsburys reclaiming PPI of (£899)(which they've been charging to my account for the past 5 years despite me only agreeing to 1 year on the CCA), also reclaiming credit card charges from them (£599) which would make healthy inroads to my debt of £2200 with them on a Visa card.

Preparing my N1 court form for Halifax PPI of £1900 (balance of the card is £790), and cleaning the flat with white vinegar to make it spick and span for my return from relatives on the 2nd Jan.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
