Highland dream you’ve done so well in getting to where you are, you have made amazing progress.

It is a long road, the next part should be shorter as there is less interest on the remaining debts.

I think you need to celebrate this milestone.
Would your budget withstand setting aside some treat yourself money now your payments have reduced. I know you just want them gone but would it make a difference if you were able to treat yourself a bit (not suggesting anything crazy) and it take a month or two longer. Or if that feels too frivolous start a parallel savings pot to treat yourself once the debt is gone?

Good for thought, you know your circumstances best

    You;ve done amazingly well.
You are in the middle - like a hump back bridge. Starting is positive and has it's rewards - the downward bit has its award but the middle is a bit meh like anything that requires determination. Building, dieting, clearing out. It's always the trudging thorough the middle that's hardest.
I've used all sorts of daft prompts to keep me going when the going is tough. Even gold stars on a grid :D At work I had a photo of the thing I wanted to repeat most pinned above my desk to remind me why I was in a desperate job. Every time I felt like giving up I would stare at it and give myself a talking to.
Somehow a tree house in a rainforest was more inspirational than paying the bills. I didn't quite get back there but it did the trick.
Find your goal that isn't just about saving and paying off. A reward of some sort. Doesn't have to be expensive. A duvet day with real coffee and danish pastries, great meal out, whatever floats your boat :) Maybe you need to do that now to celebrate.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

The only normal people you know are the ones you don’t know very well

  • I totally agree with twopenny. For me, the middle third of any process is always the most difficult.  I can start well and when the finish line is in sight, I can finish strongly but really struggle with the middle bit.  I use percentages to motivate myself.  Only x to pay to get to 50%, 55%, etc. once I hit the 65% to 70%, it becomes doable again.
I was once advised when struggling with something to list the reasons for doing it well. Where debt is concerned, it had to be reduced stress and increased choices.
keep doing what you’re doing, you got this.
Mortgage at 01.01.14 £119,481.83:eek: today £0 Emergency fund £5.5/5.5k & £200/200 cash.:jWeight 24/02/19 14st 7lb now 12st determined to stop defining myself by my mistakes. Progress not perfection.:T100%through my 1% mortgage challenge. 100% through my pb challenge.

Could you put the overall debt figure imto a spreadsheet and create a graph to visualise how ita gone down? You are nearly down to 50% which is a massive achievement, pay half as much again and you wont be far off 20% left.
  • Thank you all. I did have a small lottery win - £80, my OH bought me a scratchcard , think he regretted it :D . I bought some much needed dog walking boots, I had stuck up the holes in mine but they had really given up so that felt like a result without spending any actual cash if that makes sense. As a few people have said I think it's because it's the half way point, hopefully it will feel better once it starts going below the half way point.

If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

You are already through halfway point - you have now more money left to pay the rest, cause you don't have to service the debt on the half you already paid off.

Hence paying off second half is gonna be faster than paying off the first half and it will keep getting eaiser as you pay off more and more as you are left with more money and be able to pay off the rest faster and faster.

  • I like the sound of that! jjjoe52 said:
