The Council raised my band

Options
Hi,
I've just received a letter from Vos saying that the Council Instructed them to reassess my council tax band, so they'll need to see the house.
Today the Council we site says that my band has been raised by one effective from 3 days ago.
Is it possible that after Vos assessment it could raise even more?

I bought this house as it is now 18 months ago.
The kitchen extension and the loft conversions were done in 2011 and 2014 by a family that in 2018 sold the house to another family, that in turn sold to me in 2023.

I don't understand why they are reassessing now instead of many years ago.

Thanks

Band changes do not impact the owner who builds the extension, they only apply on sale, that may have been missed in 2018, it also depends on the permitted development rights etc.

Revaluations don’t happen when the work was done, they happen when ownership changes.

Can works like a kitchen extension and loft conversion raise the valuation by two bands?

They could, to many factors for us to be able to tell you though.

It looks as if the 2018 change of ownership slipped through the net and the VOA (not Vos) were not informed the band may need to be revised until after your purchase. If the VOA has just increased the band, it is extremely unlikely it will be increased again.

Would suggest you contact the VOA directly and asked them exactly what is going on
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
