Refund advice pls - Tesco overcharged £930.52 for 2 potatoes

Hi hoping someone has experience with obtaining a quick refund from Tesco. I have my shopping delivered, I requested 2 potatoes and they billed me for 1177.873 kg of potatoes at £930.52.  I have spoken to Tesco and they will refund the money but it will take 3-5 working days, as you can imagine this is to long, any advice on if this is the norm, or legal, or how can make it quicker, greatly appreciated.

It's not Tesco it's your bank or their bank. Some of them do take up to three days, some do it immediately. Tesco will have processed the refund straight away. You could try contacting your bank

Can we see your solid gold potatoes please?  ;)

They will have refunded it immediately. 3-5 working days is the normal working day lag for refunds to show, and the timescale they state to cover their back. Not sure why you think this isnt "legal", Tesco have no say over the banking system in this country.

In all likelihood it will show before 3w.d if my recent refunds are anything to go by.

In effect that is how long it will take.

If it is causing you issues with you finances (into a overdraft) than speak to your bank & they could temp refund till the actual refund comes through.

  • it's an unfortunate error but the refund will probably be in the bank by Monday. If it is causing difficulties before then, then contact your bank and explain the situation and see what they can do to help.

It may well be that the refund is visible in your bank's system even if it is not showing as a cleared balance in your account.
