Am I entitled to anything

Hiya, Just needing some help and advice as what to do regarding my situation.

My current workplace are due to be having their roof repaired and redone, We`ve known this since the beginning of the year however we did not know when.
We initally got told it would be done in November of this year and then later on April next year and now this week i`ve been told it will be happening next month.

It`s set to take about 4 weeks and we were told that we would have to use 4 weeks of our holiday pay, However due to the constant changing of when it would happen it meant we were put in a difficult position of whether or not to use our holidays. I`m not sure how much holiday i`ve used but I think i`ve got about 2 weeks worth left and I would have to use that for when we have time off for this repair. This leaves me in a sticky position where as I don`t get paid for 1/2 weeks and was wondering if there was any subsitute for this period as it`s out of my control and my boss isnt exactly sympathetic.

I have exactly 4 four weeks of holiday and it also usaully covers Christmas (Work in a hotel) when it`s quieter and we use those days off as holiday so this means I probably won`t be paid for those days in December either now because of this repair. So any help is appreciated.

Company's can tell you when to take holiday but need to give you sufficient notice. I believe its 2 x the amount of time they want you to take. But if your boss isn't very sympathetic then I would imagine stating that to them probably wont go down to well.

As said in one of the replies above, legally they have to give you notice of at least twice the length of the holiday they are instructing you to take. It sounds as if there is not enough time left to give that much notice.

However if you force the issue they could, for example, get round this by giving you just enough notice to take several shorter periods of holiday with a day or two back at work in between! That might be worse from your point of view and isn't going to make you very popular either.

The best bet would be to try an reach an amicable compromise if at all possible.

Ah didn`t know that. Back in February he actually told some other staff about taking holiday for the roof by pulling them into the office, but he didn`t actually do that with me and I wouldn`t of known about that if I wasn`t earwigging whilst leaving work.

Dunno how i`m going to work round this one

How many days a week are you contracted to work?
As it is a hotel which presumably operates 7 days a week, do you also get bank holidays?
