Ultrasonic cleaners for retainers, glasses etc.

I have a gum shield to help stop me clenching my jaw. I've had it 18 months and despite cleaning it after every use and regular soaks in retainer cleaner, it's looking pretty discoloured and some dark staining which I can only think has come from a filling.
I keep seeing adverts for ultrasonic cleaning devices. Which they say can also clean spectacles.
Has anyone had any success with these?
I keep reading conflicting information about using them to clean specs.
Thanks

Have you tried sterilising tablets?  Commonly used for babies bottles etc so safe.

We use an ultrasonic cleaner with denture sterilising tablets for gum shields/retainers, glasses, jewellery & similar. Works really well and definitely gets everything cleaner. Particularly good on jewellery to get the sparkle back.

I don't know about glasses, but from how an ultrasonic bath works, I would guess the risk is that any screws on the glasses might get loosened? Particularly after frequent use of it.

They can be pretty effective for retainers, bite guards, gum shields and dentures.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

They will also remove certain types of coating on metal spectacle frames. By accident I turned a pair of gunmetal coloured specs into bright silver! I looked in horror at most of the coating floating around in the US cleaner after just four minutes. There was nothing for it but to give them another go and remove the rest. Actually they looked quite nice, so not a total loss. I'd done other glasses in the past without any problem but be careful!
