Cancelling direct debit to reassure

I want to move my pension away from reassure. I contacted them 2 weeks ago to stop my payments. Finally today I get a message from them saying that they will respond within 10 working days (2 weeks)!
4 weeks just to cancel a direct debit!
Anyway it's a private pension so is there anything stopping me from just cancelling the direct debit myself apart from getting lots of automated messages about payment not being received?
