PILON & Pensions

Hi I've been made redundant and I'm asking my employer to pay my normal % contribution into my pension from my PILON.  I'm not asking them to pay there contribution just mine from my last salary is this something they should do for me?

    Employer's choice.

  • Just pay it into a SIPP instead.

I've seen all approaches from employers, I've had employers who have allowed employees to sacrifice all of their PILON above the minimum wage into their salary sacrifice scheme as an AVC, and I have seen employers do nothing but give the employer the payment after tax/NI with no additional deductions (including pensions) catered for.

The only was to know for certain is to ask them.

@squirrelpie this would work, but if you have a Salsac pension and a generous employer, it could result in a 15-25% increase in the funds going into the pension compared to just taking the money and then putting it into a SIPP.

I asked a similar question here about 3 years ago when I believed I was being made redundant. Unfortunatley this didn't come to fruition so I am sitll working for the same employer in a somewhat contrived manner, but I continue to live in hope!  :)
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
