Just retired…

Hi all,

Following a few posts here over the past year I have now retired as of end of last month! 🎉

However, I can honestly say I feel absolutely shattered! Did anyone else feel this way? Genuinely don’t remember ever feeling so wiped out! 😝

My guess is it’s no more living on adrenaline as my job was quite full on. I hope it passes soon as I’d like to get started on the next chapter!

I’d love to hear if anyone else went through this?

Thanks

Well done. I finished end of July.
Yes you need time to decompress it is a big change mentality so take some time to just chill,

Your dream list will still be there next week and the week after . You are not on the clock now so just get your headspace back

It is a big change and it affects people in different ways. When I retired from a stressful job it was a an absolute joy and I have loved the last 10 years of freedom and being busy doing things I love. My wife on the other hand really struggled with the change and suffered from quite a bit of anxiety in the first few years.

Come on in, the water's lovely 😎

Treat the first couple of weeks like a holiday, just chill, the DIY/Travel/Hobbies etc can wait!

How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

It is one of the biggest changes in life, suddenly after possibly forty years or more you do not have to go to work.
It is unlike a  holiday as there is no return date

You could feel lacking in purpose or you might need time to become used to your new regime.

I retired early but got caught up in moving and a house renovation but for the past couple of years have thought about taking on a part time job. I do not need the money and would resent paying the  tax.

It has only been a week and I’m itching to get started on all the fun stuff, but I’m just really tired. I’m guessing it’s stepping off the merry go round - it’s going to take a little while to recover 😂

It's a big change after 30+ years of working. I retired about 7 years ago seem to remember that I did nothing in the first week other than have a lie in and then potter around the house.

After that I set about doing all the jobs that had been put off for year, and once they were done, I started volunteering with a local charity for two mornings a week as I realised that I was going to get bored if I didn't do something.

The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Yes I think I need a week or so to recover to be honest. So used to being on the go and the next thing…
