"Add more information" in HMRC's Self Assesment online

Options
I've nearly reached the end of my first Self Assessment online, and I get to the page where I have 700 words to add extra information. It doesn't say anywhere optional, so I understand is mandatory? is it where I should describe my business? how I operate? how I've come to this incomes and expenditures and my future plans? or is it maybe to explain weird things like ministers of religion and this rare cases? I am at a loss as there isn't any indication of what I should say.

I was inclined to leave it blank, but I don't want to seem suspicious, and much more when I've only earned 3700 gross income.

This is the help text;

"Use the space below to enter any additional information we have asked for in this section of your return, or you feel is needed to support the entries you've made about your business on the Self-employment form.

You should only enter alpha, numeric and the following special characters '()*,-./£@&. You can't enter more than 700 characters (including spaces) here."

    Not mandatory. I have never needed to add any additional text so never have and not had any issues at all.

    I've used it once in 20 years.

    Don't be tempted to start the JCB and dig yourself a big hole with unnecessary information.

    If the HMRC raise enquiries then that's the time for explanations. Otherwise stay stum.
  • Many thanks :) . Seems logic so I will leave it blank :)

    I’ve added the name of the joint property owner in that box, I feel sure that somewhere on the property section is says to do so if you are declaring part income of a jointly owned property.
