  • Good day to you all

I have received an SMS and a letter today regarding a debt I have no recollection of. I have lived in my current home for 7 years and my previous home for 2 years. During this time, I have never received any correspondence about this debt. If there is any possibility that I may have had this account, it would have been some 10 to15 years prior to the last 10 years, which suggests this account might have been active around 1999–2004.

Given the time that has lapsed, can I assume this debt can no longer be collected? Also, I have an active HSBC credit card in good standing for 18 months and a First Direct account in good standing for 4 years.

    I welcome your advice?

    Send them a prove-it letter.

If it turns out to be what you think, and there is no mention of a ccj on it, then send the statute barred letter
