Good day to you allI have received an SMS and a letter today regarding a debt I have no recollection of. I have lived in my current home for 7 years and my previous home for 2 years. During this time, I have never received any correspondence about this debt. If there is any possibility that I may have had this account, it would have been some 10 to15 years prior to the last 10 years, which suggests this account might have been active around 1999–2004.Given the time that has lapsed, can I assume this debt can no longer be collected? Also, I have an active HSBC credit card in good standing for 18 months and a First Direct account in good standing for 4 years.I welcome your advice?SMS:Hello XXXX,We have sent you an email regarding a personal matter. Please call 01253 532142 quoting reference XXXXXXX.On arrival home, a letter:Dear XXXXXXACI ReferenceHSBC ReferenceOn behalf of Intrum, we have been instructed to collect a debt of £3,XXX.XX, which is owed to them for your account originally taken out with HSBC.We are an FCA-approved debt resolution agency with years of experience helping our customers improve their circumstances and repay their debt in an affordable and sustainable way. What do you need to do now?We need you to contact us straight away so we can discuss how this account is to be repaid. Send them a prove-it letter.
If it turns out to be what you think, and there is no mention of a ccj on it, then send the statute barred letter1
