MSE Poll: Have you turned your heating on yet?

My gas use shows an increase this year on 7th Sept, a whole month ahead of the past 4 years at least.

Responded to the MSE recent poll, have you turned your heating on yet, well yes I have so replied yes, but Poll did not give responder the option to say at what temperature heating has been set. After several attempts I've managed to get on this forum to mention this. A survey like this surely would be more accurate if MSE asked at what temp was it set and for how long? It's not just as simple as turning the heating on is it? For example I've turned it on for 90mins in the morning at 18.5C and 4hrs in the evening at 18.5C. Just to take the chill off. Before the price hikes it was on for longer and set at 20C.
Well we are knocking on a bit0 -

It’s not even cold yet! Does everyone wear too many clothes when they go outside, then get even hotter when they walk around. Get home, take off your hat, gloves, scarves and 2 coats then complain that your house is freezing!!0

The poll also seems to assume everyone has central heating so there’s a central point of on or off. I have underfloor heating, so it’s never turned completely off … but it has been set low enough over the summer that it would never come on (unless we had had some really unseasonably cold weather!). As the weather has got cooler, I’ve tweaked the settings in the rooms I’m using, when I’m using them. But it’s not as cut and dried as off or on,
Also, with a medical condition, I refuse to get cold and jeopardise my health: different people feel the cold in different ways!0 -
Poll would appear to be pants as only 58.8% of those aged between 65-79 had turned on their central heating, it would seem the rest of the 4,580 taking part were not accounted for. I haven't turned on mine yet but I have put on extra layers and wrap around a thicker blanket when sat and the kitchen gets warm when cooking. I will wait to put on central heating when it is too cold/damp for comfort.
A TIP AT NIGHT. The old fashioned stone hot water bottles are best to warm a bed as they get really hot from boiled water quicker than anything else. Just wrap the nightclothes around it and move around the bed before getting in. If still feeling the need for extra warmth bed socks are brilliant and cuddling a fluffy rubber hot water bottle keeps you as snug as a bug. PS I am still sea swimming in a swim suit and have found that this seems to reduce the amount of heating I need during the winter, except for the hot shower when I get in.0
