I seem to remember that it wasn't so long ago that cashmere jumpers were £100 plus - has cashmere got that cheap? or were we ripped off a few years ago?

Be careful with M&S - the ones I saw (£15) had the plastic coating that you normally associate with pure cashmere, but reading the label the jumpers only had about 10% cashmere - very dodgy.

They're also a bit of a pain when they get dirty as they need to be hand washed. My sister bought me a white cashmere jumper from Tesco last christmas - I wore it once and it spent the next 9 months in the laundry basket. In the end I got fed up of seeing it in the bottom of the basket so I threw it in the washing machine with the other laundry on 40 degrees - it came out in pretty much the same condition as it went in (except it was clean, of course) but I can't be bothered to wear it any more.

I tried on the ladies v-necked cashmere jumper (£11 down from £22 in Asda) and it had 3/4 length sleeves - which means that it would leave you a bit chilly around the wrists.
  • Uniqlo's sale at the moment has loads of 100% cashmere jumpers and cardigans & the like. I bought a beautiful v-necked green one in the Oxford St shop with £30 of Christmas money; originally it was £50. (It's been my only January sales purchase - and very happy with it).

My washing machine has a wool/handwash cycle - so I put jumpers in that with Woolite/Sturgene instead of regular detergent and they seem very happy.
