Skandia Life & Pensions was bought in 2006 by Old Mutual.   It rebranded to Old Mutual Wealth Life in 2014.  When Old Mutual Wealth left the UK, they sold the life and pensions book to ReAssure.     So, your history is missing a whole tranche of events.

ReAssure only took on the active plans.  Not those that were inactive without value, matured, transferred or lapsed.

2012 is a notable date.   Auto enrolment started in October 2012.    Skandia did not offer an auto-enrolment-compliant pension.    So, your employer would have sought a new workplace pension to replace it.

Seeing as you have no memory of commencing the pension benefits and have made no reference to Old Mutual Wealth, this would suggest that the pension may have been transferred as ReAssure suggest.      In which case, have you checked the workplace pension you had in 2012 to see if it received a transfer from Skandia Life?

Alternatively, it could be that the pension never existed in real life to begin with.   Pre Auto-enrolment rules from 2001 to 2012 required employers to have a nominated scheme but you and they were not required to pay into it.     Many employers, especially smaller ones, had these schemes existing on paper only, with no money ever going in.     With that requirement ending in 2012, those virtual schemes could be closed off as they had a nil value.

  • Hi. Thank you for the response.
In 2012 I was in a different company from the one with skandia pension, made redundant in 2006. Myself and the company contributed to this pension.. predicted 17k payout...
Apologies in advance on the workings of pensions.
I will check with the pension I had in 2012... different workplace.. different pension company to see if anything went in there...
I haven't requested any monies be transfered around so I am a little lost with this.
Just hoping the money isn't now lost

Do you have any information that shows there was a value in there in the first place?
If it was a hollow scheme, it would never have obtained a value.
