Student council tax discount

Hello everyone. I have just started university and am told that I can apply to the council for a discount on council tax. I live with my partner who is self employed. Does anyone know if I would still be entitled to a discount - does it matter if I am in a relationship with a person I live with, or is it just the household income that is considered? It is Pembrokeshire Council if that makes a difference. I’ll be speaking to them next week anyway but it would be good to know what I may be entitled to before contacting them. Any help gratefully received!

I'd expect you'd be effectively treated as though your partner was in sole occupancy - so a 25% discount as you're (as a full time student) not liable for Council Tax1

Students are exempt, your university can produce the necessary paperwork. The household is then considered as if the student wasn't resident. So the requirement for a single person discount does not count the student.
New students will need to be very clear on their start date, as the exemption only starts from that date.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. To be eligible for the student discount, your course must last at least 1 year and involve at least 21 hours of study per weekIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

technically it is a disregard, not a discount
if you meet the criteria as listed by Lincroft above then you are "disregarded" when the council look at who is resident in the property.
Given what you have said, as it is you and your partner, then disregarding you means there is now only 1 person resident in the property, so your partner will then qualify for and need to apply for the single person discount of 25% off his council tax bill.
as an aside it may be worth you confirming with the council whether they would physically remove your name from the council bill bearing in mind that a CT bill in your name can be useful as a form of ID in certain circumstances. So not being on the bill means you lose that as a means of ID.0
