in Cutting tax
My father died in July, I'm an executor and went with mum to sort the death certificate and now the named contact for assorts of government agencies. HMRC have written to me to say I need to pay back tax which dad owed. I cannot for the life of me work out how I do that, online I can only access my tax stuff and there seems to be no place to enter his details. Do I just send a cheque somewhere and hope for the best? The letter says I can do it online or using their app. I've tried both and failed... Help please!

A cheque should be fine, just make sure his National Insurance number is written on the back of it.1 -

Have you got a UTR number on the letter? If so I believe you follow the Simple Assessment payment process, declining to sign in when you reach that option. The UTR is connected to your dad’s tax affairs

Thank you all, especially maisie_cat and Sarahspangles, I've managed it! It was simple after all, my problem was thinking I needed to login in to the Government Gateway, so much easier without! Thanks again1
