How do you contact the tax office through your personal tax account

Options
My son has been taxed on his second job as a 40% tax payer when his total estimated income will be about £27,000 for the year

We have been looking all through the personal tax account to see where you can contact them to let them know that the tax code is wrong but nothing evident

Been on the phone and cut off after 30 mins

how can we contact them online we have set it all down in a word document but where can we send it?

I find the Personal Tax Account nearly useless. I ended up sending them a letter which at least they registered their receipt there and eventually responded by letter.

Has he updated his estimated earnings at each job?  That will result in an automatic tax code review and may correct things straight away.

You should be able to adjust the estimated pay from each source on the PTA which would trigger a new tax code.

As above.  I have done it several times and the codes changed next day.

When did he leave employment with them?

Could you clarify exactly what has happened (employment wise) in the current tax year?

How many jobs has he been paid by?

How many is he still being paid by?

If he has finished some jobs has he received P45's from the employer(s)?

Is it possible he has signed statement B on a new starter declaration when he is still being paid by a previous employer?
  • Hi there he has left 3 jobs, and started two more.

Two of the jobs have left an end date of April 2025 even though my son thinks he left  and his personal tax account says he left.

I will ask him what he has done regards to Statement B and yes its possible he did a shift or two in his new jobs while still working in two of the old jobs. until he decided the new jobs suited him better.

I will find out what he has done P45 wise

My guess is that the two first jobs with an end date of April 25 are being concidered as still being paid as his estimated income is about £65000 in the personal tax account

Changing estimated income on the two ended employments is not available as we could have done that

I also found that problem. I think he has no choice but to call them to get it sorted. If he calls at 08.00 sharp normally the wait should not be too long ( 10/15 minutes?)

The only alternative is to pay the extra tax and when his tax for 24/25 is calculated around September 2025 he should automatically get a refund.

HMRC system does seem to sometimes struggle with people changing jobs, having multiple jobs, etc
