Vodafone mobile arrears on closed account

I’m hoping DFW veterans out there can offer some guidance on how to tackle an old debt accrued on previous Vodafone mobile account.

I had a contract with Vodafone for many years. Latterly, as it was used almost entirely for work, it was tied to my business account. When my business went to the wall in 2021, I kept the phone number as my personal number and paid month by month using personal account or credit card. Eventually in 2023, overall decline of my financial situation meant a number of missed payments and eventually by end of the year they terminated the account - at that point I was in no position financially to tackle this and had also stopped opening mail etc so wasn’t immediately aware of debt collection demands. The amount being claimed originally by Vodafone - in late Nov 2023 - was just under £450. In early Dec I had a letter from CSS collection agency asking for about £520 in relation to the same account. And then there seems to have been no more contact from either Vodafone or CSS. I am not clear whether the increase in amount is due to an additional months usage being added or if it is debt agency adding fees. I can’t find a record of the exactl date at which they deactivated the connection.

I need to find out what the status of this debt is and as I would struggle to clear it in one go look at a repayment plan Who should I contact about this? when the DD was active it was linked to my business but the arrears were accrued at a later stage when it was personal use so it’s not a business debt but a personal one.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Thank you

as stated in response to another of your posts - send a proveit letter.  Send it (in both cases) to the original creditor, vodafone in this case.

Maybe for this one you can find out if it's completely considered by them to be a business account in which case they should chase the business (now defunct?) and not you?
