Council tax 25% discount refund - Elderly

Recently found out that my mother lost her 25% Council tax discount when she moved to a smaller property after her husband passed away. It transpires that you HAVE to reapply if you move home. We were lucky enough to get a refund of over £4000 but had to get an affidavit to confirm our claim. Please passs this on, especially fir aged or vulnerable friends or family. PS the affidavit was quite simple but there will be a cist through a Notary or Soolicitor. Ask you local Council. Ours were very helpful.

It has always been the case that if you are eligible for the 25% SPD you have to claim it in the respect of the dwelling in which you are currently living. It never automatically transfers.

The CT bill will always show if the SPD has been applied. So the advice would be to check your bill whether "elderly" or not..
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
