W-8BEN doesn't avoid US withholding tax entirely, it just ensures that the lower 15% rate is paid, but that's regardless of whether a UK tax wrapper is being used.RL11 said:Contacted Hargreaves. They said they can send me dividend tax vouchers to help with a claim but can't apply on my behalf.
Seems peculiar that for US shares, you just fill in a W-8BEN to avoid tax on US company share dividends but there is no equivalent form for Spanish company shares?0 -
Now I'm curious, if you're invested in a fund that has global equities, does that fund claim the withheld tax on your behalf?

You seem to have no power when it comes to SIPP!
I hold PLUS500 in my SIPP and AJ bell wouldn't help. The different legal structure in a SIPP means one doesn't have any powers. It has to be administrator. PLUS500 pays quite a juicy dividend so have missed out on a chunky rebate over the years.
Suggested business proposal to AJ Bell to do a collective tax rebate claim but charge each investor say 1% with a max fee of say £25 but a min of £10.
Might begin migrating the holding from SIPP to ISA but means trading costs, margin risks from spreads etc...0 -
