When you claim your SP and have savings in your bank account and have claimed benefits in the past do you have to pay back the money to the DWP that you received when you were on benefits ?

You may have to repay income related benefits if your state pension is backdated for any reason. But if you are receiving it in real time (i.e. it's due today so it starts today) then you just need to report it in case any of your benefits are income related.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Or, you had savings when claiming means-tested benefits but did not declare those savings?1 -

That’s an interesting concept. Benefits repaid if you can at a later time afford to.
I think that would be a great idea for Furlough money in particular.
Definitely something the government should consider.
Thanks for proposing it.1
