The cheif exec wont care, he has other things to worry about and will just pass it straight to the customer service dep

Don't send an email - it's too impersonal and reactive, and will be construed as such by his (her) secretary gaining minimum effect and response.

Set your stall out with a well thought out and reasoned snail mail letter sent by recorded delivery which will cost you £1.04 and put the recorded delivery slip tracking number on the top of the letter so they know you mean business.

Don't be rude, aggressive or threatening, state your clear and reasonable reason of complaint and your clear case of what you expect back from them ie :

    1 - Apology

    2 - Explanation

3 - What they are going to do in terms of change of policy/procedure to ensure the problem isn't replicated.

4 - What you expect in terms of compensation/reimbursement in view of your cause of complaint.

Give them a polite timescale of 14 days of receipt of your letter to comply befofre you escalate the complaint to Trading Standards etc.

Be polite, be factual, be short and to the point, give a timescale and use and quote Royal Mail Recorded Delivery then they cannot chuck your complaint in the bin and claim it never arrived - oh, and don't use e-mail, it's lazy, unprofessional, impersonal and destined for the recycle bin

Good luck and Happy New Year to you also.

i beg to differ that the chief exec of a large retail firm wont care about customer service. Regardless of who he passes it on to (undoubtedly he wont deal with it himself) i think it is a little harsh to say that he wont / doesnt care!!

  • From my experience the chief exec will care, when he passes it on which is his job to do, who ever picks it up will most likely give it there highest priority purely due to the source of request. They would also be expected to report back just to say its sorted. If that’s not how it’s handled then there something wrong with the high level management over at argos….

    100% agree, don’t email.

how many letters do you think a company the size of argos receive "FAO MD/CEO" etc?? They may set aside 15 minutes a week to read a few, but thats it. Its not because they dont care, they dont have time.

I hate to burst your bubble, he wont care. you are just joe bloggs just like everybody else.

you didnt expect a personal reply did you ?!

if you send a letter to him, he will just pass it straight to cust relations dept and there is a chance your letter will get lost internally
  • I disagree - the only time I have ever got anywhere complaining is by going to the top. Yes they normally get their PA or senior people to handle it but it always works

I complained to the CEO of Halifax and I got a reply from them. The rest of the problem was followed up by other people but he/she (it was over a year ago now!) sent a nice email to check everything had been dealt with to my satisfaction.

All I can say is that I'll use the Halifax again, whereas during the incident I decided I wouldn't bother!
