in Cutting tax
In year 23/24 I was fortunate enough to earn over the £100k threshold, so I paid a lump sum of 30k gross into my pension. I have supplied evidence to HMRC to claim my tax rebate and repeatedly chased them, but 5months on I cannot get them to action it. To add insult, they’re taxing me monthly to pay what they see as an underpayment of tax from last year because they haven’t taken my pension contribution into account. I’m not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?

Probably not an awful lot to be honest.
Was this a RAS contribution where basic rate relief was added to your net contribution of £24k?

I had similar - albeit my lump sum was £40k grossed up to £50k - wrote to them mid-July, they asked for interest earned in 23/24 and when I chased this week they sent me a proposed rebate number. Just doing some calculations on that but once I confirm they say they’ll pay within 5 working days0

I’m also waiting for a refund, they have acknowledged my letter about SIPP contributions as ‘complete’ so I assume it will be rolled into my P800 calculation. They quote ‘June to October’ for that.Fashion on the Ration

Or did you try to make the claim for the tax rebate via soe other means?
You may find doing your tax return is the most effective - I received my tax refund within a couple of weeks (or less) of filing my SA Tax Return.0 -
I’m trying to avoid doing a SA tax return because I don’t want to wait that long. As I earned less than 150k I shouldn’t have to.0

When a return is processed any refund arising is passed for repayment right awy. if you had submitted it asap after 5 April it would most likely have been sorted out by now.
SA returns are processed automatically, by the computer.
Your manual claim is waiting in long queue , until somebody gets round to dealing with it.0 -

I submitted my Self Assessment online on 25th April 2024 & am still waiting for a £4,000 refund. I have phoned HMRC & got fobbed off several times. I finally received a letter dated 15th August 2024 stating that my return hasn't been processed yet & that I should expect a response by 15th October 2024. I think it's outrageous that it takes HMRC almost six months to get round to even looking at my return.

I'm tax resident in France but have to complete a SA because of UK employment that is taxed in UK. It's a really simple form as it was all PAYE except HMRC buggered up my tax code & deducted too much income tax & now owe me £4K.
