Holiday entitlement & long term sickness

I had been on long term sickness from my job since January and I retired in May. I had 70 hrs of holiday entitlement from the previous year's annual leave entitlement, but on retirement I was only paid for April and May's accrued holidays. Do they have to pay me for the previous year's holidays still owing?

With my employer if you have unused holiday entitlement left at the end of the year, you can ask for 5 days to be transferred to the following year, but all days not transferred are lost - you do not get paid for these.  It sounds like it's a similar arrangement with your employer.

Have a look here, scroll down to "Sick leave and holiday"....

    https://www.gov.uk/taking-sick-leave

This only refers to statutory holiday entitlement, ( 28 days a year inclusive of bank holidays) any holiday entitlement above the statutory holiday would I understand depend on your contract.

They would have to pay you for any of your statutory holiday that was not taken due to sickness. However different rules may apply to any contractual holiday entitlement over and above the statutory entitlement of 28 days (assuming you were full time). Depending on the wording of your contract they may not have to pay you for that.
