private healthcare insurance and pre existing conditions

Options
Hello,

Firstly apologies if this is in the wrong thread.

I am looking to get private health insurance for a pre existing condition I have that is currently ongoing. I`ve been having a issue with my ear for at least ten years now. Been doctors multiple times all they did was syringe and ear drops and nothing has worked. It`s constantly blocked and has signs of tinnitus..Infact it`s alot to do with the inner ear. Finally saw someone who took me seriously and she said it was retracted and so referred me to the hospital, Had a CT scan of March of this year. However ever since then i`ve had no response in regards to my results and I feel as though my condition has gotten worse and it`s affecting me mentally..I.E constantly saying what, I cannot hear people in front of me very well takes a lot of strain, guessing to work out what they said which leads to embarrasment, Sick of the constant noises of the inner ear I cannot even describe it it`s horrible esp when laying on the ear or someone is touching it. I`ve contacted the doctor`s secretary who ordered the scan and i`ve contacted PALS....Nothing.

So that`s why i`m here, I`m getting no where with the NHS. However I do run into a bit of a problem it`s a pre existing condition which started when I was like 13/14 and obviously I was a kid I didn`t think of health insurance then.So my question is, Is there any private healthcare insurance that DOES cover pre existing conditions. I imagine some ask about pre existing conditions and it depends. I`m not really sure on this so would be grateful for some advice.

Got my latest policy from the Post Office.  Cheaper for a one off trip then the standard ones for seniors (i.e. me)

Are you talking about travel insurance, because the OP is not.

OP, you’re not going to get health insurance to cover an existing ongoing condition unless you’ve been symptoms/treatment free for a specified period at a time .
If you want private health treatment you’re going to have to pay for it.

Can your GP not chase anything up for you, or whoever it was who referred you?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • as above unless you pay a fortune you will not get insurance for this.

If you only want insurance for the ear just pay and see a private ENT, should only be a few hundred £. Or take out insurance that doesn't cover the ear for everything else and then pay for it.

No private policy will cover a condition you have had treatment for in the last X years (X may vary slightly with different companies). Most / all will also exclude any condition which you should reasonably have been aware of, even if you had not been to the doctor about it).

Frustrating but understandable, otherwise nobody would sign up until they needed treatment!
  • Ah that sucks :(

Just getting very frustrated getting no answers or report back from the hospital, Had the condition for all of these years and someone finally takes notice and back to square one again.  I think the doctor has passed it off tbh.

Unfortunately you are trying to bet on a race that has already been run and unfortunately neither bookies nor insurers will take you up on that.

    There are only two exceptions:

    1) Corporate schemes, the best ones do cover pre-existing conditions but then again in a reasonable proportion of those schemes the employer is the one paying for the treatment via a claims fund they deposit with the insurer

    2) Some will allow you to setup a personal policy mirroring a corporate policy if you cease being an employee

So unless you're willing to switch employer to one with such a scheme you'll either need to fund the private treatment yourself or stick with the NHS. Unfortunately too many only think about buying PMI after they already have an issue
