Paying off the lair

Hey y'all.

We've just had our mortgage renewal come through, and I think it's time to get serious with trying to pay this thing off.
Our monthly payment has leapt from £428.67 to £576.90 (thankfully not as bad as some). We were debating on going with variable this time, but stuck with fixed for the next 3 years. At least we'll know what's coming out each month.

I would love to hit the 10% yearly overpayment limit, but that may be a little ambitious.
Currently the mortgage stands at £103,594.98. We're going to leave this to start in the New Year.

I do also owe the bf £8088.22, which he's happy for me to pay back in dribs & drabs, but I hate it hanging over my head. I'd like to keep chipping away at it, while also saving up a lump to pay back. With the main aim to pay him in full by the end of 2025

Work has also been a little iffy right now, there are whispers of redundancies, so I'd like to put aside a 6 month Emergency Fund too. My half of the bills would mean a target of £3500. I currently have £1300 saved.

I've got some weekends away planned for this year & early next year, not big events, but things like travel & eating out always end up costing more than expected.

So, my main targets between now and the New Year, where I shall re-assess my situation:

* EF £2000
* BF Owed total under £7000
* Holiday fund £300
* As little 'Want' spending as possible

Welp, here goes!

  • Thanks guys!

    Started with a couple of spend days.
    Friday it was fish & chips for work lunch. I head to our other office twice a week & we usually take turns for coffees, cakes etc.
    Then saturday I asked the bf to get me some more ground coffee for my aeropress. He came home with coffee beans, so that meant I had to buy a grinder to use them. He did say he would just throw them away, but I didn't want to waste the money, and at least with a grinder I have options in case he makes the same mistake again. :D

    Not spent anything today, and no plans to spend tomorrow so that's better. And Monday is payday.

  • So payday yesterday & I've filled my pots.

    £580 to Bills
    £400 to groceries I prefer to over budget. Me and the bf alternate months for groceries, so next month this will be £0
    £200 into the EF
    £75 to PT
    £130 to Hols Bro booked the hotels for Brighton Marathon in April, best to get these in early as the closer we get, the costs will skyrocket
    £50 for pets - Last month I only spent like £6 on some buggos, as I'm trying to mainly use my roach colony for feedings. Hopefully I can do the same this month.
    £25 for Gift fund
    £10 for Clothes This is a new pot, I rarely buy clothes or shoes, but I decided it was best to start putting something away just in case I need something in the future
    £50 for Pin Money. I'd rather not spend anything on wants, but being realistic I've decided to put a monthly sum aside for incidentals like our weekly work coffee etc, so I'm not using the credit card

    I've used £10 of the Pin Money today, as it was my turn for the work coffees, and I'm off for my monthly book club tonight, so will probably treat myself to a cocktail. I don't think I have anything else due yet this month, so hopefully should get through the month with spare.

    Anything not spent will either be rolled over or popped into savings, depending on the pot.

    Groceries bought friday (£32.93), and a meat order (£120.50) placed today. The meat order has drained the pot quite a bit, but we'll only need top ups of things like rice & veg, so we should scrape through. Part of the meat order was the bfs, which I'm covering and taking off the balance I owe him (£35.25).
    I also bought a birthday card for my brother today, which comes out of my Gift pot. I have enough in the Gift pot for his present too.
