Mortgage transfer

Hi my mortgage was transferred from Kensington to Mars finance without my agreement. I understand tgey can do this. However at time of transfer I had just over £1000 arrears which I was paying monthly with no additional charges. Now Mars have accepted £50 monthly for arrears but I was charged £172 interest so my arrears are getting bigger. I was assured at transfer nothing would change. Can Mars charge me interest as well as a £40 monthly arrears fee? Seems unfair tgat I am now in a worse position after the transfer.

Yes they can. Administering your account is costing them money. What they are charging is only a fraction of the true cost.

I wonder if there is just a change in the way the numbers are being presented to you...?
Kensington will have been charging you interest on the remaining unpaid balance of your mortgage and Mars will be doing the same.
I assume you are making your correct monthly mortgage payment in addition to the £50 payment towards the arrears?
