Penguin_ said:I have always struggled with falling asleep due to anxiety & overthinking, I lack the ability to be able to switch off & my thoughts end up racing round my brain.
A friend of mine suggested trying a Magnesium supplement about 1/2 hour before bed & I will be honest it has changed my life. I drift off peacefully & if I do wake in the night, if doesn't take me long to get back to sleep.I have some Zinc/Calcium/Magnesium supplements and so I will try this too, thank you!2 -

Last couple of trips I have taken melatolin for the first 2 nights back and that has sorted it out. I sleep through on those nights and my body clock gets reset and I'm fine after that.
I know you said you didn't want to resort to drugs, but it is worth considering and melatonin is different to sleeping pill ingredients.0 -
Prescription only in the UK.
You can get it online, but it depends how much you trust online sources. There are online pharmacies who say they can do it if you complete a questionnaire - Never use them though, so I don’t know what questions they ask or whether they do ask for a prescription at some point. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
Melatonin. You can get it from Iherb.

I use valerian extract tablets available from any health food shops. I actually buy mine from Amazon.
but if not jet lag you probably have a type of insomnia. I wake daily at 3am too but doctors diagnosed it but won't prescribe for it because the pills are addictive0 -
I am using a Magnesium lotion at the moment that is really helping with sleep!1

If this doesn't work for you then you should see a doctor.I am. I am currently awake at 7am and awake all day (I don’t/never “nap”) until 3/4am the next morning :-(
Probably not healthy, but I once did an all nighter post a holiday (part intentional, partly just how the last bits of travel worked out). The following night, I was ready to sleep as soon as I allowed myself to, so new rhythm was on straight away.1
