Withdraw Application or Wait.

I applied for a DWP Job role and due to the checks not working out they are telling me to withdraw on the website otherwise they will have the recruitment team withdraw at their end. I am not sure the exact reason why they want me to withdraw but did mention one of the contacts emails for my previous employer bounced and they are not satisfied.
I am also on Universal Credit so I am reluctant to withdraw myself partly because I want the job and also in case my Job Coach finds out and sanctions me thinking I am backing down on the provisional offer.
Does it leave a black mark if you withdraw an application or is it better to withdraw yourself rather than forcing them to take your application down.

I would also be asking for clarity around the reason, rather than guessing. Because if the issue is contacts for references, you might be able to supply alternatives. Rather than just walking away from the job.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
I think, in this situation, it is better for the application to fail than for you to withdraw.
Is there more to this about "checks not working out"?
Do you have any reason to suspect that anything would be found in your past that precludes you from the role?
Can you clarify the issue around the "bounced contact email"? It seems odd to me that a potential employer would receive an e-mail bounce back and conclude that as reason to suspend the process for a good candidate. Have you been given the opportunity to verify the e-mail address (not a typo?) or provide an alternative contact at that previous employer?0 -
Often if you are turned down by an organisation you are blocked from future application for X months/years whereas if you withdraw then you'll be entitled to apply for other roles.
I've no idea how benefits work these days, I vaguely remember it used to be you had to have evidence you applied for Y roles etc and so it may be ok to withdraw if you've already got other evidence of hitting the target but clearly things may have changed and it may be about explicitly applying for certain roles in which case being rejected and blocked may be preferable.0
