in Cutting tax
Hi
Hubby did his self assessment back in April requesting it to be paid back, heard nothing from them. He resubmitted it July, still not heard anything. Checked his progress online & it states they're currently dealing with those submitted August.
He's tried chat a few times at different times of the day & different days, each time gets to the point where it says you need to speak to an advisor & cuts him off.
Any email or direct phone number he can try as getting nowhere fast.

he'd taken some money from his drawdown pension in March & paid too much tax on it0

Was it one of those where the pension provider takes the tax at 40% upon payout? If it is then I have a friend who is still waiting for his refund and he submitted in June. His is only small as the amount he took out mostly just covered his tax bill, he called at the end of August and was told that there was a backlog and all that they would give was that it should be processed by the end of January. He was also told that resubmitting would put him to the back of the queue. I suspect it will take the same amount of time no matter how many hours one wastes contacting them, so at least for the next few months it is probably not worth chasing as long as everything is showing online as submitted.0

That wasn't the reason he filed a return though?alrewas said:he'd taken some money from his drawdown pension in March & paid too much tax on it

If he hadn't don't that HMRC would almost certainly have refunded the tax overpaid by now.
But he's gone down the Self Assessment route so he will just have to wait for that part of HMRC to crank into action.
Has he checked his Self Assessment account to see what has happend to the overpayment?1 -
Same happened to me. Submitted tax return on 7 April and was soon informed I was due a refund of £395. Requested a refubd online but nothing happened so submitted request twice more but still no response. Eventually rang up a week ago and refund in my bank in 5 working days. The agent said ghat the request was not dealt with automatically and was waiting for a human being to approve it but that never happened and it was their mistake. When I rang it took 7 minutes for the call to be answered. Was very impressed0
