SC level clearance question

Options
Hi all

in an application for SC level clearance would i need to declare a police interview that occurred when i was 16 (24 years ago). Following interview no further action was taken. Worrying myself this will have an impact on the clearance.

Cheers

Personally I'd declare it. Not declaring it (I presume it was under caution) raises red flags about what else you might be hiding.

Honestly and transparency is key to this. Are you embarrassed about the fact you were interviewed? Do you want to keep it secret? If yes, that's a route by which someone can get a hold on you. Be open and honest on the application.

    Thanks Emmia. Appreciate the response.

I've no desire to hide it, just wondered if it could have an impact on the clearance.
  • Probably not if no action was taken, especially as it was so long ago, but to me it would depend on what the question was...
Have you been charged by the police with any offences no matter how minor in the last 10 years?  No
Have you ever been charged by the police with any offences no matter how minor?  No
Have you been interviewed by the police in relation to any offence no matter how minor in the last 10 years?  No
Have you ever been interviewed by the police in relation to any offence no matter how minor?  Yes

Thanks. I'll put it down if asked in line with the last question. As long as i put it down is it likely to have any impact on the outcome of the clearance?

We can't tell you that - clearance will depend on your application and what they find by looking at your background.
  • I understand. Appreciate the responses.

So in your opinion, as long as i declare it shouldnt pose an issue?

For SC a police interview 24 years ago that lead to no charge isn't going to be an issue as far as I can imagine!

Your past interview under caution will be considered alongside other things they can find out about your background - for example your internet browsing habits, spending, social media posts, family etc.,

We can't tell you with any certainty whether it is an issue or not. It might not be, but your financial background (for example) might be. Honestly just put the application in and wait and see.
