They're allowed to write anything that's true, although I agree that most references are fairly bland, or limited to confirming dates of employment.penners324 said:I doubt they'll write under performing on a reference. Not even sure they're allowed to.
Just let it go. The stress of acas isn't with it in this situation
But I agree with letting it go.Signature removed for peace of mind2 -
Is there any other reason/motivation you can think of as to WHY they fired YOU? Especially as you said your performance was good enough to earn a bonus..Ehi said:I just got the news on wednesday. HR is yet to write me. I personally think the manager hates me, as there was no definite decision, rather he took a wild decision. As my team mates were shocked and angry
I am told the letter/email would be sent later, hence I am waiting.
I intend to appeal, as I dont ever want it on my record that I was UNDER PERFORMING.
Over the years, I have developed serious eye problems, back problems and 10 years ago, I was told to change my life style or would get a heart condition ( which I did, and regulalry go to the gym and ensure I eat right)
I dont want anyone telling me, my sacrifice is not appreciated. Hence would appeal it0 -
Sorry to resurrect an old post but the OP has posted other stuff and this thread brings some context.SChitmehard said:

There was an absolute reason/motivation as to WHY they fired OP.
The employer was acquired, the employee was 2 months shy of passing the threshold of being able to claim unfair dismissal.
That is extremely common, especially when there is a new owner and they do not have time to determine the value of new people.
I have worked for at least three companies that were acquired, one brought in an American as a sort of conduit, he "accidentally" left a list on the photocopier, it included every employee except one, the list was in a specific order.
Soon after the first two people on that list were fired, a week later 2 more, pretty soon people began to realise what was going on and the only person they kept was the one missing from the list. They managed to avoid redundancy and other hassle as most people just left. Nobody tried to claim constructive dismissal because officially there was no list, no staff were told that there was an intention to fire them, nobody filed a grievance. The chap who was transferred lasted about a year, he had formerly worked for the acquiring company.
