I wonder if I can claim extra state pension. 40 years ago I was self employed and because of financial difficulties fell into arrears with my NI contributions. They were happy for me to pay it back weekly, which I did.
Recently, clearing out old paperwork, I found the payment card. Looking at it, found that the wrong NI number was on the card. It seems I was paying money to the wrong person i.e., not me. I should have been more vigilant but it was they who wrote the card out. Any advice or ideas would be welcomed.0 -
Have you checked your on line tax account to see what gaps you have in your record ?When do you / did you reach state retirement age ?How many full years do you have 2015-16 and earlier, how many 2016-17 and later ?How much are you / will you be receiving each week ?Answering those points will give a better idea of if it is worth pursuing. The first port of call for queries would be to the NI enquiry line https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/national-insurance-enquiries-for-employees-and-individualsI will ask for this to be moved to the correct more suitable board

Are you above state pension age now ?
If so, how much pension are you getting and did you reach state pension age before or after 6th April 2016 ?
If not, what does your state pension forecast say
