I’m really not convinced that still being technically employed makes a difference to the benefits. There are a lot of people whose sick pay has run out who go onto other benefits while still on the employers books.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I suspect their reasoning is going that all the while he's on SSP, they have to pay that (and any contractual company sick pay, but I'm guessing it's SSP only), and they can't reclaim that cost.
But that is their problem, not his, and he does not have to resign: they can dismiss on capability grounds, and could have done so a while back given that it's a driver they need, and he cannot drive!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
As for his personal items, he should request they be available yo be collected and get someone to take him in to collect them.
If not he could refer the matter to the police for theft.0 -
In some sectors in order to be dismissed on medical grounds you have to be incapable of performing any job within the establishment.
It still wouldnt be classed as redundancy though0
