What exercises are they seeking to do?
Number of reps etc., and is the aim bodybuilder bulk or muscles along the line of a ballet dancer?

The first thing to consider is the amount of space and strength of floor in the bedroom.
Once you know the space is suitable for the weight-lifting equipment, the following factors need to be considered before choosing what to buy:
What is his bodyweight? Height?
What type of build does he have? Lean and muscular or carrying a few extra pounds?
What weight lifting experience does he have? (Some beginners can barely lift the bar - typically 20kg)
Does he have good lifting technique for the type of movement he proposes? (Poor technique can cause damage.)
What outcome is he seeking?
Will he be wanting free weights?
Will he be purchasing a rack?
Will he be using a bench?
What exercises will he be performing? Different weights can be lifted for different motions. Different motions train different muscle groups.1
