LGPS Pre-2008 and tax free lump sum

If a member of LGPS scheme prior to 2008, is it compulsory to take the tax free lump sum or are there other options available?

Is this dependant on whether an active or deferred member of the scheme?

TIA

LGPS inverse commutation (converting a lump sum to pension) ended many moons ago.

In theory, someone who left and deferred their benefits before April 2006 MAY be eligible.  In practice, very few will be as other rules/factors would have to be met.

I have a deffered LGPs with sevice prior to 2008. When I asked this question to the fund administrator they said that those in the scheme prior to 2008 will have an automatic lump sum. I don't think there is any way to take that except as a lump sum (tax free)
