Hi Sourcrates, wow I didn't expect a reply like yours. That is a comfort, thank you for your detailed response.0

Also to offer to pay even a small portion is to acknowledge that you owe something which, as I understand it, resets the clock so the date for being statute barred would be 6 years from that acknowledgement rather than the 4 years currently.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Thanks Brie, just one last thing - do you think it a risk to buy a house in my new country, before those debts are statute barred?0

Thanks again for all your advice. Family members were saying that my creditors could take a charge out against any house I might buy here, if they found out.0

In order to take action in a legal jurisdiction (UK), they need an address and assets in that legal jurisdiction. They can get a CCJ in the UK if they lie and use your old address. They can't get a UK Court to enforce that outside the UK, and you can get that set aside at a cost.
It appears nothing we say will ease your angst, spend a few euros on an opinion from a lawyer in your current jurisdiction.
