Should I feel bad about applying for another training opportunity after completing one?

I work in healthcare and have recently received some training in an area I am interested in (clinical skills). It hasn't panned out as expected and I will have a much more limited scope rather than what was initially promised (mainly due to consultants not supporting).

Anyway a new clincial training role has come up for interventional procedures and I want to apply. Some of my colleagues are miffed that I am even considering applying as I've had training recently. They also applied for the training that I went for but deferred it.

We are two different types of people. I've always prioritised education and my skillset over money whereas they tend to work 7 days a week for lucrative overtime bonuses. There's a huge clinical demand so I can't blame them.

I feel I am the best prepared due to the amount of my own time I have put in. I also waited for such an opportunity whereas they opted for clinical lead roles which cary a greater pay but are not being done very well.

Sad to be asking but the culture and conditions in the NHS are rough: Should I feel guilty about applying for an opportunity I am interested in just because others think I shouldn't and because I have had a good recent training opportunity?

The opportunity will put me on the same pay grade as the collleagues referred to some of whom are more junior than myself.

You don’t make the final decision. So if you want to apply then apply and it’s down to your bosses to decide who is best placed to receive the training.
