I have been told in my fire training that never to leave anything under counter like toaster because it can be fire risk because will make the wood dry and such. We have got industrial microwave now where the heat is spreading upwords from the vents. I removed the  shelves and told my boss and they were fine with it but have done correct thing because other colleagues dislike having the self removed!

Much heat from a microwave only device will be steamy hot air from the food cooking...  A combi microwave with grilling element inside will be hotter air.

What does the installation and operation manual for the microwave say about fitting it under a counter/ inside a housing? Typically they will have minimum clearance dimensions as well.
THAT will be what you need to comply with.

Seek professional advice from someone expert in this field if you are unsure?  Strangers on the interweb are not a reliable source of information!

Your employer says what can and can't happen, not your work colleagues

Yeah fire person showed us picture of toaster under counter that had set on fire because heat was reaching the wood and made it weak. Just posting to see if there any fire expert about forums.

The point about a toaster is valid, it uses a red hot element and the convected heat from the top will be hot enough to cause issues. I've never had a microwave that convected heat to anything like a toaster.

One of those industrial ones that samsung uses and the vent is at the back pointing upwords and can feel the heat. Also its going to be used all the time by many staff
